Just moved down to carbondale last week and I've been fishing cedar and little grassy. So far, Cedar has only given up a few small crappies for me trolling. Mostly been bass fishing though. Went to little grassy yesterday and found some big gills in shallow but only managed 2 keeper crappies all day. Coming from WI these lakes are throwing me off a bit. I've been fishing hard this week and just can't get the crappies to go. Anyone here fish cedar. I live close to cedar so I'd really like to learn it more as I can definitely see the potential

There's an awful lot of smallie lakes up that way. The three that come to mind are lake arbutus, lake mendota, lake Wisconsin. I could probably make a list of 50 lakes that are great though. Definitely check out green bay if you are up for some bigger water

Can't help you much with Grassy Bassindude - but I used to go to Cedar a lot back in the 80s and it was very good bass fishing. It was always much earlier in the year. My fav time was mid-late March and It didn't seem to matter much. Had great luck with cranks, spinnerbaits, plastics - the usual fare.

I will say this. A buddy who introduced me to the lake used to take a smaller boat that he could drag over the dam of the big lake and fish the smaller one above it. He said it got a lot less pressure and liked it better. I never did that but the same situation may be today.

Good luck - it sure is a pretty lake and I always liked fishing it but I never did chase crapppie (and probably should have)

Thanks RiverRat. I've thought about pulling my boat over but I think it's just a little too much for one guy though. I'll have to take the canoe one of these times. It is definitely a beautiful lake. With this weather we're having I think my time will be spent after dark chasing bass until the heat breaks...I'll post when the first decent Cedar Crappie hits the deck of the boat.

Try the rock walls near the pump house. First neck from the dock to the left.
