I have fished with Nick a number of times (thank you) and you cant beat his experience, ability and how he treats people.

I have never met a more patient man who can treat people who know very little about fishing with dignity and understanding. A few years ago I personally witnessed how when a certain father hooked his own son in the back of the head with a treble hook (buried DEEP) was able to keep everyone calm and then administered the coup de grāce by removing said treble hook with no pain and NO damage!

The son didn't have to go to the ER and the father...well, he will never forget the experience.

Well someone must have had to many bud lights again. Bashing what a joke just like posting pics of location, boat ramps, etc.. some think they own the lake and wouldn't help out if you were sinking over to brush pile.

Man Greg, little harsh! Why do you have a problem with a guy recommending my guide service? Buddy, you want to pick a guide who really puts the time in on the water and is out there scouting weather he's got a trip booked or not. There are a few guys on here that may put as much time in as me but I doubt you'll find anyone that puts in more between Crab, Kinkaid, and Rend. No offense to the new guides starting up, I wish you all the luck in the world, but for me this is my career, my full time job! I don't mean to be the kind of guy to brag on him self, but I take a lot of pride in the fact that I put a ton of hours into habitat, scouting new waters, working with a variety of media including TV and outdoor writers to make my guide service one of the best! I think there is a lot more to guiding than some people realize! There are several good guides in Southern Illinois and I don't know why we can't give the guys the credit they deserve. It's getting to the point where a guide can't post on here without another guide jumping on him. You just have to do some research and pick which one you feel is best, you got several good choices!

I am from Ohio and will be on Kinkaid April 11-15. The last time I was there I didn't hire a guide. Kyle was on the water and STILL helped me out even though I wasn't a paying client! I saw the way he treated his clients and it was first class. From my experience with Kyle I would only consider him if I hired a guide. He is a cordial. knowledgeable person that will put you on fish! (Big ones at that)

I'm just going to say this. I think for the most part all the guides that guide in Southern IL are great guides, me included. The only reason I have not been guiding is because of my boat. I want a bigger boat before I get back into the guiding. And we all know who I will be guiding with when that happens. There is plenty of people out there who want to go fishing so I feel there is plenty to go around. So bashing other people only makes a person look bad in peoples eyes. If you want to talk bad about someone do it some where else but not on here. I have enough enemies with my regular job I do so I sure don't want any on here. I try to get along with everyone and I would like to see that on here.
So good luck to all the guides on here and have fun and build up a good client base.

Nick Shafer Crappie Predator Crappie Predator Home page. is a great guy you'll have a great day with him. His buddy Jason Johns Boneyard Fishing Home | Boneyard Fishing | Best Crappie and Bass Fishing Guides in Southern IL is also a great guy and talented guide. They do a lot together their both worth their fees and worth looking into booking a trip with.
Please leave the water cleaner than you found it we are only borrowing it from our kids and grand kids..
