    Default First (Actual) maiden voyage

Took my new (used ) crestliner out for its maiden crappie voyage. I've been averaging 7-10 keeper crappie from the bank. I fished new, and deeper water today and finished with one fish over 10 inches.

I played with the humminbird S-I, (797 on the dash) and thought it was pretty neat. I suggest for the first time to cover water that you are familiar with so you know what you are looking at. This is the first time I've had a gps/sonar up front (788) Pretty neat, but with the small screen, you need to keep it on one or the other, to make it easier to see. The Honda 150 purred like a kitten, but is sort of slow, pushing the 18 foot aluminum boat at 42 mph., at 5200 rpm., but without a full windshield, in the cold it was plenty fast enough.

All in all a pretty good day, but hope to put more than one in it on its next voyage

That boat should go faster than that Jerry, I have a 17.5 with a 75 and it will run 40mph on GPS. Maybe you need to talk to a prop guy. Oh wheres the pics? Of fish and boat

Sounds like my fishing report I had last Friday, one over 10 and 5 little guppies. At least my boat ran good so thats a plus. Glad you got a chance to take your new toy out for a run. My day off is Thursday, another bad day like usual as far as the weather.

    XXL,

Although I don't know if the speed you are getting is appropriate for your rig, there are some good guys that frequent the forum in the link below that can help you match your motor, prop and boat. Just post the info you have above along with prop dimensions and pitch and they will set you up. Just thought you may be interested.

You always need to teach a boat how to catch fish. I have had mine for about 7 to 8 years and somedays the boat sucks at catching fish!

I agree with the above. Did you trim it? I have a 115 four stroke on a 18 foot boat and I run 46. Your 150 should push you faster. If not a trim issue it could be a prop issue.

Good luck with the Crestliner. I had one and had to send it back to the factory twice to get repressed. had the same problem never could get the boat to stop plowing.

Although not known for their speed, the Honda 150hp should get more. At 5200rpm max you are over propped. That outboard should have a max at 6000rpm and that is where you should be close to. Any outboard should be running at the high side of the max rpm to get full performance.

    What pitch is your prop?
