    Default I hear ya

CrappieKen, I'm begining to wonder the exact same thing. I have been about half dozon times since halloween and caught probably 85 crappie. Of those 85 only about 6 were 10 inches
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

I fished the docks at Fox Harbor this morning for about two hours. I caught one white bass and 5 crappie - one keeper that went 101/2 inches. My buddy caught 2 keepers about the same length. There were elight to ten guys fishing today and I saw more keeper crappie than at any time over there this year. The fishing seems to be picking up, but still is not good. The most anyone person had was three. Most fish caught were 8 to 9 feet deep. I may go over there tomorrow earlier as we didn't get there until 9 A.M. today. Will keep everyone posted on what is happening on the docks.

I fished the docks again today from 8 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. I Kept 3 crappie - one 101/2 incher and two 11 inchers. It seems the fishing is picking up but still leaves a lot to be desired. I didn't talk to anyone that had more than three keepers. I met Ranger 375 at Howy's this morning for breakfast. It is nice to be able to put a face with the posts on the board.

I hit the docks again this morning for 3 hours. Had 3 keepers - a 101/4 and two that went 101/2. I did have something on that broke my 8 lb line with no problem. PIGINTHEPIGPEN - If you plan to fish Sangchris much you might want to invest in a Fishing HotSpots map of the lake. I was looking at one today at D & M in Sullivan. It looks fairly informative and sells for $7.95.

I just found this board yesterday and haven't read all of the threads but I have spent many days fishing for crappie at Lake Shelbyville. It will be interesting to see how other folks are doing.

Redtick - Welcome to the board and the Illinois forum. I am glad to see more Illinois people on the board and for the Illinois forum to become more active. How was your luck on Shelbyville this season? 2004 certainly can't compare to the fishing we had in 2003. I just hope it improves this coming year. However, from the size of the majority of the crappie I've caught this year I think we may be a couple of years away until the size picks up. How far are you away from Lake Shelbyville and how often do you fish it?

Actually, I never fished Lake Shelbyville this year but I sure have fished it alot in the past. I live on Lake Mattoon and can crappie fish from my yard. The crappie fishing in Lake Mattoon is spotty but I have never failed to catch some this year and I believe if I brush up on my deep water crappie fishing, I could do better. I often catfish instead of crappie fish or even more often, fish for both species. It seems if you find crappie, you have also found channels. Probably the fish that broke your 8# line was a channel.
Lake Shelbyville is not very far from me and I may fish it some this next year. Of course, why hook up the boat to the truck when I can just fire up the boat motor and go here from my home?
It will be good to exchange information on local crappie fishing.

    Default still struggling

Put in at Whitley Creek today at 9:00am and fished till 1:30pm.
    Same olo chit
Caught about 15, with only one keeper.
To top it off, the tip of my BnM pole busted on my second fish of the day
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

PIGINTHEPIGPEN - I fished the docks again this morning for two hours. I caught between 12 to 15 crappie but only one keeper - a 101/4 incher. Nobody was doing well.
Redtick - I fished a friend's dock three times this fall out on lake Mattoon. I caught a 121/2, a 12, a 101/2, and a 91/2 incher that I kept plus a number of crappie under 8 inches. I live in Mattoon but mainly fish Shelbyville so I didn't want to pay $40 to put my boat in two or three times. If Shelbyville continues to produce all these small ones I may have to reconsider Lake Mattoon next year.
PIGINTHEPEN - I had a tip on my BnM pole break several years ago the second time I used it. All I was doing was lifting an 11 incher into my boat. I called BnM and they replaced the tip without charge. Fortunately, I had the receipt showing I had purchased the rod just a few days earlier. I also explained it broke while boating an 11 inch crappie.
