    Default Help with Carlyle Lake

We're gonna be in St. Louis visiting family in a few weeks and brother-in-law wants a boat ride. Looks like Carlyle is the closest option for us. Any info y'all can give on ramps, etc. would be appreciated.

for the flats...look for the silos in the middle of the lake...the flats are huge and the water is 4-5ft deep...you will see the whites chasing shad

You might want to visit Carlylelake.com Guide to Carlyle Lake for some detailed info. Two of the big corps ramps are Keyesport and Dam West but they charge the COE daily use fee ($4) There are smaller ramps around the lake that the state manages and those are free.

It can get really rough out there so be careful....

Nothing wrong with going boating at Caryle as long as the wind is not blowing. The lake is pretty much wide open and can get pretty choppy. Another option approx. 35-40 min. further would be Rend Lake, its has a state highway cutting across the lake and if it is windy one sid or the other can be a lot calmer. Another option to the south would be Kinkade lake about 20 minutes south of Chester IL.
