    Default Lsg--old Lucky

After missing two guide trips last week because of a blown transmission in his truck, Old lucky gets home today, and his transmission goes out again. Steve had a trip today, where he cleaned 150 whites, 10 crappie and 4 walleye. He was looking forward to the next 4 days before he starts his construction job. He also landed a 12-14 pound catfish that decorated his boat with a big job of pooh. I got to see that and was it funny. If you guys like to fish for whites, you need to get out on the water now. The whites are chasing the young shad, that look like a half a tooth pick. They come to the surface and stay for over an hour. They have been doing this for most of the day. Not too hard to catch, with whatever you want to throw.

How big are the whites that you are keeping? I really only like to keep crappie but if my brother and I go out tomorrow, would like some sort of reference as to what the average size is now. I know there is no limit on length or quantity...but I don't like to clean a fish to get a slab of bacon from it.

These are about the size of white bass you will catch. Some will run a little bigger later in the day when you go deeper for them.

    Default Catfish Rivalry

I was lucky enough to be fishing with LSG on the day XXL described and just wanted to add a couple of pictures. The first is Steve's kitty fish which made a "car wash worthy" mess on the front deck during the photo session, and the second is of the day catch. Very good quality white bass plus some bonus walleye, sauger, and crappie.

XXL and LSG have a bit of a catfish rivalry going on currently. If you read the post from the previous day you will see where Jerry fought a catfish for over 10 minutes and Steve left him to fend for himself. When Steve hooked this one Jerry was nearby and offered a trout net for assistance and he was enjoying the messy photo session from a safe distance in his nice clean boat.

As XXL, LSG, and Fishfryed have said, the white bass fishing at Shelbyville is very good right now with nice sized fish. This weekend's warm weather should be a plus. It is a great time of year to get out and bring along a youngster or beginner. They will be hooked for life after seeing acres of fish busting the surface and catching one almost every cast. Good luck to all.

PS: Ole Lucky's truck is healthy again and he will be back in action tomorrow disguised as a white bass fisherman in search of big bottom feeders. My guess would be XXL might have on the same mask...just a cleaner boat. Gotta love it.
