    Default Crude on the motor

Does anyone know how to get of the white residue that builds on on black motors, like my mercury? I've tried lime-away, finigar and water, and various other cleaners. Any tips would be appreciated.

I have used tidy bowl. I just squirted it on lower unit, rubbed with soft brush, and rinsed off. Looked like new. I would keep it off the boat though. (wear rubber gloves)

I hear white spray paint works really well, can't see the residue anymore... ;-)

I use a product called Tuf-Stuff. All around great cleaner and works wonders on boat carpets as well. You can get it at Wal-Mart.

Whatever you decide on, XXL, I think it's important to make sure you get plenty of practice by cleaning more than one motor/boat.
In order to make it easier on you, I just happen to have one you can practice on and it's only about 100 yards from your house. Just sayin....ha

I' be happy to haul my Merc out for you to get additional practice on...LOL. Bet you could spend all your free time cleaning motors thus keeping you off the water and me a chance...LOL

LSG. got me a bottle of zep, supposed to take calcium, lime, and rust away. In a few days, after I try it, I'll make a post so all you guys can have a lower unit as clean and sparkling as Steve's and mine.

I bought some of this product a few years ago and it seems to do a good job. As long as you are ok buying from a walleye central guy you might want to check it out.
