From the Shelbyville Daily Union web page:
4 Injured in Boating Accident Saturday Morning » Homepage » Shelbyville Daily Union

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Four people were injured Saturday morning when two fishing boats collided on Lake Shelbyville.

The victims, who remain unidentified at the time of this posting, were taken to Shelby Memorial Hospital by Shelby Ambulande. Two of the victims were later airlifted to regional trauma centers.

According to Cory Donnel, park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville, the accident was reported by other nearby boaters at 10:16 a.m. The boaters assisted the victims out of the water and took them to the Lone Point boat ramp where the Illinois Conservation Police, Shelby County Dive team, Findlay Fire and Rescue, Corps personnel and ambulance personnel assisted.

"The accident occurred near Point 2 southwest of Lone Point Recreation Area," Donnel said.. "There were three other boats in the vicinity. The boaters stated they heard the accident, but did not see it. There are no conclusions as to what happened. There was damage to both boats. They did not sink, The boats were towed back to the Lone Point boat ramp."

The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois Conservation Police.

hope there were no deaths and its not as bad as it sounded. It can get really crazy out there with a couple of tournaments plus the normal crowd.

I was less than 50 yards from the accident when it happened . I found 2 people in the water and older man and his grandson . The teenage boy was face down and bleeding from a large head wound . With the help of another boat we got him turned over and they were able to get him in there boat and I helped the older man into my boat . We took them to Lone Point Access and waited for rescue personal . He could not remember anything that happened . Conservation Police arrived and brought 2 others in from the other boat . I had my back to the accident so did not see what happened but just the sound of the crash made me jump . I had my 3 year old grand son with me and it really scared him . What saved them from drowning is they were both waring PFDs . The last report I heard was the teenage boy was in real bad shape and could not move anything from the neck down . shelbycountynews.net has a story and several photos .

    See ya Kevin ><)))*>

A friend and me were there too , just around the bend when it happened , we heard it happen . By the time we got there , there were several boats on the scene and most were helping the younger teenager . We helped get the 2 boats to shore so they did not sink . One of the men we seen was bleeding pretty much and looked like had a broken arm . I think the teenager was probably in the greatest need of medical treatment , we followed to lone point and he seemed to be in great pain . I do beleive that the fact he had a lifejacket on helped him to keep from a possible drowning . I sure hope that everything is alright and in the long run and there are no permanent damages . It shows how important it is to be as safe as possible when boating ,there was a lot of boat traffic Saturday, wear PFD and watch for others carefully . My prayers go out to all those involved .

The teenager was fishing my Fishers of Men Legacy tournament with his grandfather. He was taken to Springfield Memorial Hospital and has concussion and skull fracture. His vital signs are good. They are to run test today to find out more. The grandfather was taken to Shelbyville hospital and should be released today. Please keep them in your prayers

Thanks to all you who assisted

That is better news, we will keep them in our prayers. There are boats on flats and points all over Shelbyville so be courteous to them and extra cautious.

Oh man - this makes me sick to hear about. I hope they're all okay and I"m grateful that so many were so close and could offer immediate help. My son just certified as a lifeguard today and I pray to God that he never has to use his training.

Prayers going out to those families. That's just tragic...
