SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Four people were injured Saturday morning when two fishing boats collided on Lake Shelbyville.
The victims, who remain unidentified at the time of this posting, were taken to Shelby Memorial Hospital by Shelby Ambulande. Two of the victims were later airlifted to regional trauma centers.
According to Cory Donnel, park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville, the accident was reported by other nearby boaters at 10:16 a.m. The boaters assisted the victims out of the water and took them to the Lone Point boat ramp where the Illinois Conservation Police, Shelby County Dive team, Findlay Fire and Rescue, Corps personnel and ambulance personnel assisted.
"The accident occurred near Point 2 southwest of Lone Point Recreation Area," Donnel said.. "There were three other boats in the vicinity. The boaters stated they heard the accident, but did not see it. There are no conclusions as to what happened. There was damage to both boats. They did not sink, The boats were towed back to the Lone Point boat ramp."
The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois Conservation Police.
