Unless the lake has a 2 pole limit (almost all the lakes do) you can use as many as you want as long as you don't exceed 50 hooks. If you go to the IDNR website you can look at each lakes specific rules to see if they are 2 pole only. I think you can spider rig at Rend and Kinkaid but you better make sure.

Check The Threads A Couple Months Ago Big Long Thread And A Lot Of Stuff Pasted.... One Guy Said He Got A Warning From Dnr He Was Trolling For Muskie At Kinkaid And Had Too Many Poles Think He Said He Had Seven Poles Total While There Was Two In The Boat.. Lots of questions are ask about this subject because Illinois is site specific. Very confusing. Each game warden sometimes dont know because of this. Rend is three poles if your trolling.

    Default Pole Limit

I talked to a warden this week --he said any lake that had a 2 pole limit you could only troll 2--then said each warden had his own thoughts--[told me if he checked me i could have 3 trollin] ---

Trolling is limited to three poles, two hooks per pole, if the lake does not have a 2 pole limit. But, if you're not trolling you can use as many poles as you want as long as you don't exceed 50 hooks.

If Your Spider Rigging Your Going To Be Moving And Thats The Same As Trolling... Dnr Told Me If You Think You Can Keep You Boat Totally Still, Anchored Then It Could Apply, But If Your Boat Is Moving In The Wind That Is Considered Moving... My Anchors Hold But Not That Well...

At Coffeen lake you can use as many rods as you want...Just pick up a Illinois Regulations book at Wally World or download it online...It should tell you how many rods you can use at every lake etc..

Default This ought to clear it up.

This came up a few weeks back on the SILO site (Ask a CPO forum)

It should make it pretty clear to everyone..

    Unhappy

I can't say it is very clear to me. I do a lot of drifting for catfish. It looks like I could use as many poles as I wanted as long as I didn't use my trolling motor in lakes not 2 pole specific, (I usually do use it some when drifting). If I wanted to spider rig at Rend or Shelbyville, I would be limited to 3 poles per person but I would have to have my name and licence number on at least one of the poles. The fly in that ointment is that I don't have a licence number, I am a disabled vet. LOL

It looks like to me any CPO can use his (or her's) interpatation of the rules. And, I suppose, it could depend on what kind of day they were having.

I also troll lures like crankbails for crappie, stripers, and walleyes. I have a few lures that have more than 2 hooks on them. It sounds like I could get a ticket for using those lures. Yeah, I am confused.

I will probably stick to 2 poles with 2 hooks.
