Thanks for sharing .
there are loads of these things out there on the net. they all started with the steelie slammer in the 60s-70s. modern types like the jawjacker and salmon bear are out there to buy. i just thought them a tad pricey ay 40+$. after looking around the net i took some ideas and sreamlined them. this is what i came up with. you can build 8 of them for just over 40$. 3/4"pvc pipe and fittings+1-1" for rod holder. an eye screw and a piece of wire and thats all. didnt glue it or anything. its fits very snug.
bend the rod down and hook on the trigger wire, loop the line over the trigger wire and wait for a crappie to take the minnow.
should be a great addition to the crappie spreads this season. i plan on using tiny treble hooks and minnows on these rigs. thought i would share with my crappie.com brothers n sisters.

Finicky Fooler is a good option and does not require rod to be loaded. I have both FF and Jawjacker. The FF is about 10-12 cheaper. I like both for the fact they break down for easy portability. My homemade ones while cheaper worked just as good. But were a headache for transport.
The Finicky Fooler does not set hook like the Jawjacker does. It requires an open bail or free spool on reel. Almost same as the old style tip up. Instead of hand lining off of tip up spool a rod and reel is used.
thats why i posted it catchncrisco. i hope you do well with it!
i have seen the finicky fooler. kinda like my dead stick in holder without the flag.
I manufactured a few of these myself, a little different design, same basic concept. They work well on lite bite crappie and perch. I sure get the looks and questions on the ice.

Off topic, but what kind of reel is that on the rod laying beside holder. Looks old.

Very nice,I made some in previous years,I also made some that work with a stick in the ground rod holder. The stick in the ground ones work very well for catfishing,or any dry land set up.P.s,thanks for posting,I need my ice fishing fix!
