I saw people out yesterday. I'm gonna go drill some holes..
We too had rain all day. Lots of water on the ice. Doesn't look good. hopefully it's cold enough bu the weekend. I dont know how water on top effects the ice quality. Maybe some of you more experienced fisherman could could help me better read the ice. Does it get softer/weaker during a thaw? Or is the inches all that matter? I know the snowy white stuff isn't as good as the clear.
Tuesday AM we had good ice on some of the smaller waters. Tuesday and Wednesday it never got down to freezing and it rained Wednesday. Thursday, the shoreline had a small ring of open water all along some of the shorelines with edges too weak to get out and try any farther out. A thaw will certainly weaken ice that is just barely ready. That is just what happened in Minneapolis this past week.
I've been out to my favorite local spot 6+ times so far this season. Really noisy ice. Heard through a friend of a friend 2 guys went through. Then he said he'd meet me there tonight.. I dunno. Sat out for an hour this mirning while it was snowing. I'm going out tonight but still wearing my picks and staying where there's footprints.. the ice isnt good this year only because I got a permanent shack..
