    Default Ice fishing at night

    Question!

Just curious on what depths the crappie/bluegill go to once the sun goes down. It seems the bite turn on from 4:00 - 5:30, but once that sun goes down, it shuts off. We don't have a flasher to check depth, so I'm just curious how deep/suspended they go.

We fish in about 16 ft of water and we have been grabbin good blues about 6"-8" off the bottom during the morning/afternoon hours

    Default Night fishing

Two of us recently fished from about 4pm to 8pm in 15 fow and caught most fish at 10 ft. and some 1 ft. off the bottom. Crappie and gills up higher and the perch near the bottom.

Fishing at night during winter is the same as summer. I have noticed fish will get very active and then there is a lull, and then they become active again. First dark they seem active til about 8 and stop until 10 to 11 and stop til around 1 then it doesnt get going until 2 for awhile, then slow until 4 and starts very well until 8. This tipup for wallys and jig for perch. N/Pike don't feed at nite but Musky do - but closed.

i spend more nights than days on the ice and i stay anywhere from 7-10 most of the time im right at 8 ft , remember different lakes have different structure, try to find a shallow weed bed and count on them fish cruising from bed to bed till they find the food they want. you will always pick up some fish this way, But if you can find the bed the bait is holding up on you will be in for some fun. This is my first year on the ice but it,s deffenatily working for me!
