I killed many a deer when I was a kid using the old .22-250. The key for me has always been to use a bullet that mushrooms on impact and retains it's weight. It's been my experience that a bullet like this with a properly placed shot more times than not will drop the deer in it's tracks with no damage to your meat areas. After losing 3 deer last year shooting a ballistic tipped .243 that shattered on impact, got my buddy to switch to the Core Loks. He found all 3this year, 30 yards was the furthest he had to track one. That stuff is some of the best off the shelf ammo IMO, and it's not really that expensive compared to some of the other ammo out there.
