    Default Just hens

22 of them best we could count , rather nonchalant and pretty much not bothered by me running up on them in the truck ....
love me a game rich environment , saw 25 or so deer as well , one was a dandy buck , no deer images , kinda late in the day on them ....

Been seeing mixed flicks of hens and jakes. Long beards are staging nearby though.

love getting into a bunch like that in fall and busting them up and using my mouth to call the young in's back in when I'm squirrel hunting with trusty .410 with 3 inch magnum shells. will flat lay out a turkey and those young ones are so tender and good to eat.

course this is all a memory as I havn't got into a situation like that as our turkey numbers have plummeted in north MO. Plus I just don't get out in october like I used to. Doing too much ketchn krappie then.

not sure about the regs in that county , some counties allow hen harvests, some not , one thing for certain , there were 2 or 3 REALLY big girls off to the right of that image in the brush , and one of them older gals looked like a dang mini Ostrich

not sure what happened here to lower the numbers so much from the dramatic recovery we saw back when
but there was moment in time about 25 years ago when they were in numbers SO big they became a nuisance
200 in field sometimes and flocks running to and fro on about every place you go
it seems like about the time the hogs got really bad here, the numbers on them plummeted .....
angry birds syndrome is my guess

Not sure if you can have too many turkeys. Nice pic though. With that many hens around, you're bound to have a few interested longbeards showing up come Spring.

when they run up about 60 or more strong to your deer feeder right when it goes off and sweep the ground clean as a whistle in about 60 seconds or so you can better understand nuisance terminology .
one spot I visited years ago to hunt them told me they only put corn in 2 feeders out of 20 on the 1,500 acres due to the massive feed bills that the turkey were causing.
they are most certainly cool birds and very entertaining to say the least , but there is such a thing as too much entertainment
and yes sir the place has a good number of toms hanging around as well .
