Thread: The LAST KABOOM ?

Hopefully not is my thoughts , but today is the LAST day of the extended deer season .
So yesterdays atr lightning trigger camo KABOOM might have been my LAST deer KABOOM of the season.
Asked my friend about a small place he has that is getting very little hunting pressure , if I might go whack a doe yesterday .
He said yes and described the place a bit as I never been inside the woods over there. It is a small woodlot bordering LOTS of big ranches west of my house about 45 minutes.
I went in about 3 and drove around in it a bit to get my bearings and check what blind to sit in the north wind. Almost went to the west side but I really didn't care for the light ne wind blowing slightly towards the feeder . Opted for the east side right beside a highway instead.
It was really chilly out there and void of any kind of activity in the woods where I sat, 2 red birds and 2 doves after 2 hours and not even a squirrel !
started to second guess my plan pretty hard as daylight was going away , then out of the blue comes a big ole doe all by her lonesome moving quickly across a semi open mesquite flat area on my right side ,towards the feeder in front of me .
She stopped right at the edge of the clearing to access the area and it was her last assessment of that area.... KABOOM .....
had one of the largest 30 06 entry wounds I ever saw btw ....
On the way in his milo field was covered up in doves and on the way out as I talked with the owner to thank him for the hunt ,here comes a big ole hog across the field in front of me !
He is saying shoot it and I am in the well bro the gun is on the seat but I am busy talking with you and REALLY don't want to clean anything else in this cold .
then he starts asking if I got gas money ? I said well sir I got enough to get home for sure and he said nope , I meant to get back out here tomorrow and get another deer !
rode my myself home and guess what is waiting on the tv table ....VENISON tamales ! ! It don't really get any better yawl ....
unless you add a sunday for dessert .....it could happen you know ...

p.s. that there Mossberg is a cheap rifle that shoots VERY well ,,,,,just saying

Good shooting! The 30-06 is a classic killer of deer and other game. Glad i got to use mine for a hunt this year. I'm guessing you used a 150 grain Core-lokt?? I see that Nikon Scope, too bad they quit making them. I like my one Nikon scope and would have bought more. Glad you got the invite to come back. A few years back I had a land owner request I take some does off his farm along with a buck.. I got a buck and a couple of does, made him very happy and he let me come back the next few years as long as I took a doe or two. I lost access to his farm after he passed away but gained access to another guys place.
