I think it was sweet potatoes. The meat was so tender it fell off the bones.

more fun is to take a house dog or 2 and run up to known areas in the dark .....
let them doggies bark it up good and then leash them up....
have some helpers shine all the trees .....
and proceed to just smacking the eyes out of all them eyes in trees with some high brass number 4 shot .....
we used to do that , most of them tree real close to where they get jumped
pretty darn fun for sure .....

I hunted with a top notch coon dogger once. Those dogs never blinked while trailer thru a cornfield and several deer jumped up in front of them. Dogs treed a coon in a tall cherry tree and old Jim says"Which eye do you want me to shoot him in"? He took that single shot open sights .22 and put it right where he called!

we used to have a retired coon dog , her name was Bell
her ears were shredded ,very good sign on a coon dog ....
she would tree about anything though , not just coons ...
the local farm hand said she treed a cougar one time in his pasture....
said it jumped the tree before he could get to it to whack it ....
was a big ole oak out in an open field and he said it was for sure a lion ...

Not sure why...but I'm only seeing one or two coons where there used to be 5 or more?? We have not shot or trapped any.. I wonder if the hogs are keeping them away? The coons play well with our deer.

Ours typically eat with both hogs and deer , they seem to get along well with bucks and boars …
They do not get along with the ladies though , a doe or 2 and it isn’t friendly
And never a swarm of mommy hogs and piglets either …

99.99 percent of the time our deer run from hogs.. I have a button buck or doe feeding with them this week.. 3 years ago there was a 120lb boar that the deer would allow to feed with them. I got him first morning of archery season. I was over run with raccoons until 6 weeks ago. Not sure where they went? One of my friends had pics of a 8 point pinning a raccoon down during a food fight.. he got a little close and the buck let him know not to get in his face..

we see some foot stomping here and some racoon fluffing up and getting in the racoon fighting stance from time to time, but we
never seen them actually touch each other .....
lots of times the oppositions just change locations to better suit the moods , some give me some space type scenarios and or I will just eat the perimeter offerings if it means that much to be on top of the food to whoever has the poor attitude ....
