Nikon did stop making scopes about 4 + years ago. If you need warranty service you'll get a gift card good at the Nikon store for whatever you want, except a scope. A few friends have found that out first hand and I have 1 scope that has fogged up and the other has something loose inside of the tube. I can't wait to get a gift card. I picked up Riton Optics 5 Primal 10x42Ed bino about 4 months ago. They key for me was glass clarity and weight. I use them for waterfowl hunting and would have no issues tucking them inside my jacket while fishing big water and looking for feeding birds. They aren't cheap but do go on sale on occasion.

We have 2 rye grass fields that are 16 and 20 acre where I hunt at home and watch them from a hillside about 1200 yards away. I bought a pair of vortex viper 15x56 and I'm tickled to death with them. They were about 400 bucks but man they are clear and from that far I can tell how many points they have if they come out before plumb dark.

For hunting I like a subcompact size bino in 8X. I have a 8x42 set of Nikon and 8x32 Leoupold. I prefer the 8x32 for hunting, not as bulky or heavy as the 8x42.

I bought my sister and Daughter in law Vortex bino's for Xmas last year. I like Vortex as a company, but wouldn't go with their cheapest line of products. IMO you need to step up to atleast the Diamondback line for bang for your buck.

Ended up buying leupold 10x42 .No need to see further than I shoot . Club rules are hard to see at ranges further than 2-3 hundred yds . the BX-1 MCKENZIE HD were just over 200.00 I could not hold anything over 10X steady .See 1000yds at304.0.

we rarely let lead fly past a hundred and often have a tough time knowing what buck it is past 250 yards or so , on binos we need to see into the woods well , not so much far away .....we sit close up and personal at our place ....

Most places I hunt are fairly thick, the doe I shot this year was right about 100 yards. I had about a one foot window to make the shot through the brush, between two trees, shot her right at the base of the neck. I like 8x as I use the same binos for archery and rifle and they are lighter than full size ones.

I too have issues holding my Nikon 10 x 50 steady. I use the bill of my ballcap to hold onto while holding the binocs and it keeps them steady as can be.

we only use the 10X50 versions in the blinds and at the camper ,,,,they are cumbersome for sure
