Size: 93.8 KB I got a new 4 wheeler 13 months ago. I rarely use it, yesterday it only had 6.9 hours on it and still has original tank of gas in it... So I thought I would go for a ride and check out a couple of my spots.. I was easing along and saw a group of hogs in a pond about 30 yards away.. got stopped, got rifle off my chest ended up shooting 1 small one maybe 45lbs?. Was hoping to get another but they got into the planted pines and thick stuff in 2 seconds or less. Since he is young and fat I will make a few steak medallions to pound flat and grind the rest for hamburger. Our hogs have plenty of water year round and the meat is very mild..no gamey taste.

Nice. Good groceries. Might need to take more rides out on the 4 wheeler.

one thing for certain , in this part of the world you can scream at the top of your lungs and won't scare the game animals more than the way off out there sound of a 4 wheeler , round here about 500 yards away or better and EVERYTHING will leave the area.
nothing locally scares critters worse , not sure why ,but way sure if you hear one off in the distance you are going to see whatever in the area leave like they are on fire .
interesting you could get so close on one ,nice harvest bro ...

35O Legend is real popular here. I have a 450 Bushmaster and it has proven to be a good replacement for my 30-06. Straight wall cartridges were developed to be used in our shotgun zone and their use statewide has really exploded. Hear they have developed a 400 Legend round now. I imagine that 350 Legend on an AR platform is gentle on the shoulder, eh?

I have a 30-06 too.. I rarely use a 4 wheeler but i have 2 spots i cannot get a truck to. I have a 450BM and a 6.5 Grendel for hogs. The 350 is Lighter weight than the 450 BM and the 350 pokes a bigger hole than the 6.5... Both the 6.5 and 350 are fun to shoot, the 450 is not bad.. about like a 20 ga shotgun shooting birdshot... not bad it just weighs enough that its not as fun as toting the 350. The self sticking camo tape I put on the 350 2 years ago needs replacing.. I may just camo spray paint the rifle..

I did a camo job more than 20 years ago on a 12 gauge I bought brand new , still looks like it was bought that way ,wipe it down with alcohol and get a broom stick put in the garage wall solid at a 90 degree angle and put said weapon on it and go to town ...
get some good paint , and make a stencil or 2 out of cardboard ....good times ...

My buddy from Ohio used to gut shoot black bears with his bow for the same reason. Stay off that shoulder and they didn't run forever like a whitetail will!
