He is a mountain feist. I got him from a guy named Landon Nichols in olive hill ky. Had several females left as of last weekend. He is on the eastern ky fiest dog page on Facebook. Girlfriend found him since I don’t do Facebook.

Your Abbie reminds me a lot of our Gabby. Lost her just this week at 16.

Little Hawkeye goes out for his first hunt ever here in a couple weeks! He’s very excited! I’ve brought him home several capes and tales and he goes nuts for them. Hoping he likes the live ones even more.

The guy who has the pups says he hunts with both the mom and dad of the pups. I’m getting a male (I’ve only every had female dogs and want a male now). I’ve got a ton of questions, but don’t know anyone local (except for this guy) who has any or uses them. I’ve heard the best way to train them is to let them run with other dogs who know what they are doing, but again, don’t know anyone. Any advice y’all got would be much appreciated!

I'm looking to pick up a feist myself to get me back in shape. i'll walk one every day that the weather isn't awful year round. Just keep them where you can expose them to squirrels & if they have natural ability they'll start. Of course you can hunt them with known good dogs until they get lightly started such as treeing with them & then hunt them by themselves just like you should any dog to make them learn to use their own mind. You could trap a squirrel every now & then to let them see & smell in the live trap & raise it up in a tree to let them get interested in treeing when they're young & after they start treeing decent on it quit so they don't get dependent on sight treeing only. You can also do this with fresh road kill squirrels too. Another thing You can do if you happen to live trap a few is to turn it loose where it would have to go across an open field & climb the only tree there. Be prepared because it can take a lot of time. There's an old saying that they'll make it about the time you've worn out 3 pairs of boots so be prepared. lol

I grew up through the 70's & 80's with black n tan feists for pets & my dad did lots of squirrel hunting with them. I can literally name off about 10 different dogs we had that were all related from the same family. They were all good hunters, except one......."Patty Cake" was just a little lovable pup, but wasn't much of a hunter. They all were good natured dogs except one......."Miss Shagg" was a B!

"Big Um" was my all time favorite! He was a one cool dog and I was so heartbroken when he disappeared. Neighbor probably shot him, but we never knew for sure.

I have a soft spot for those feist dogs. I would not hesitate to get another if I was in the market for a good family & hunting dog.
