Pretty good info to give the pup some breathing room. I didn't have enough time to elaborate on bonds created. Establish yourself as the Alpha and you will have the best friend of your life. It doesn't have to be harsh training, heck food, water and lots of love earn huge respect from man's best friend. I love my dogs like if they were my children. And they pick up on it. You do fine it seems overwhelming at first, but it all will come together in the end.

Growing up we had fiest (tall type if there is such a thing ) . Living on the Tombigbee river ther were never a shortage of squirrels . I guess our poor training made our dogs hard headed . lol they would not stay when you killed the squirrel . Not gun shy wise but it was off to the next one . Our dogs ran free always . I think if it has " it "in him he ill tree , given opportunity . We had rabbit dogs that ran free as well . Time in woods makes a dog . Many mornings I got on the school bus and " Rowdy "(WAGON TRAIN / CLINT EASTWOOD ) was treed in the back yard .

rule one , let him see you smack a few squirrels with a pellet gun at a young age ....
if he has anything in him he will tune up super fast
rule 2 let him get used to louder weapons to reduce the gunshy thing ....
rule 3 praise him over abundantly with treats and etc EVERYTIME he does something desirable .....
he will hunt like a wizard for sure if you do this ....
got a half breed in my back yard that will show me a squirrel in a heart beat ...

give him a dried squirrel tale to chew on or 27 as he grows up , best deer dogs I've ever seen were fed legs and such as chew toys , bet money if he grows up chewing on squirrel tails he is a super dog on them when he gets bigger for sure ....
if he was mine and that was what he was going to do with me , that would be the first thing he figured out about squirrel hunting , they have tasty doggy treats on their behinds
