So she has been successfully using an 06 from an elevated stand is what im gathering.
But the difference now will be that she wont have the same shooting setup for resting the gun is also what im gathering.
Since she will still be hunting from a fixed location, why not concentrate on how she shoots rather than what she shoots?
I do think a smaller cartridge like one of the 6.5s or a 7/08 might be a better choice and still offer some very good balistics.
But those or any others wont fix the accuracy concerns you apparently have.
There are quite a few good options for that out there today.
Good shooting tripods that fully support the gun, yet still allow for following an animal till a shot presents itself are available.
Also, most people are unaware of just how many animals are taken every year from lightweight portable shooting benches.
And if you need convincing, take a prairie dog hunt, or any long range varmint hunt.
Carefull now, or you just might discover a whole new world.
And im not just talking about prairie dogs and groundhogs.

I think she's probably a good shot, genetics are on her side Thanks for the suggestion on tripod rest or a portable bench. Hunting on public land might make that tough depending on how far we would have to carry it and how heavy. You can't leave anything in the woods and expect it to be there the next day.

we have a store bought lite weight shooting stick we carry sometimes when sitting on the ground , but to be sure "shooting sticks" are all thru out the woods , an old pecan branch with a fork in it ,cut to the right length will for sure get it done and likely be sitting where you dropped it the next day .....ask me how I know about that trick ....

Well one of the truest things ever said about shooting is that any rest is better than no rest at all.
But then that isnt saying very much, at least for most of us having just normal abilities.
Ive been living in Florida now for almost 25 years, and ive never fired a shot of any kind since ive lived here.
I own quite a few guns, but none of them are here in Florida.
They are all in safes at our camp in north central Pa.which is where all my other gear is kept also.
There is no doubt some very good hunting in Florida, but its just not my type of hunting.
My type for about the last 60 years is sitting on a steep sidehill, and using large tripod mounted binoculars to glass the sidehills across the valley.
There are quite a few others in Pa. who use the same method, and the distances can vary depending upon the location chosen.
There are lots of natural gas pipelines thruout that region and also large power lines that can offer good places to set up and glass from. There are also many miles of dirt mountain roads offering good vantage points as well in some areas.
In Pa, you are permitted to shoot from a road, so long as you dont shoot across the road, unless your shooting location is well above the line of traffic. And that would even include highly traveled roads, like interstate roads.
Most of us will be using the dirt roads, and have locations offering good glassing, then park the vehicle and climb uphill a hundred feet or so and then set up for glassing. Most times we cant be seen from the road below. Sometimes a bit of shall we say (pruning) is necessary, and every year more pruning might be required. Some hard to reach branches might get pruned with a well placed shot also.
All, note the word All, of our shooting is done from a very good rest of some type. Also remember that especially with heavy recoiling rifles, it is essential that the gun be permitted to move during recoil. Otherwise every thing moves, including whatever device is supporting the gun. And that can become a very bad thing when shooting at animals.
Shooting prairie dogs is one thing, there is usually several others waiting to be shot at if you miss.
Not so with things like a nice buck deer that you might have been glassing for days to find, or even much longer.
Suppose youve only got 3 days to hunt for deer all year, and on the first day it rained or snowed hard all day and their calling for it again tomorrow.
Does that change anything? I mean there is always next year right? Maybe.
Regardless, why would you be choosing a crooked stick, or anything other than what would offer the best possible solution for that which you are attempting to do?
My tiny little then 13 year old grand daughter killed her first buck on a rainy day from the porch of our camp at almost 500 yards.
And she did it with an 18 pound 300 Norma with a 190 gr bullet traveling at about 3400 FPS.
But she wasent using any crooked stick for a rest either. lol

Yep, different challenges and regulations cause differing tactics.

Less recoil, legal in more zones and seasons, here in Michigan.
