    Default Fawns

Here in my part of Michigan I haven't seen any new fawns yet, until today, sort of. Witnessed a doe in tall grass 50 yards off the road that was in the process of dropping her fawn.

Was helping a buddy mow hay yesterday and between the 3 of us cutting, we saw 2 fawns! I almost got 1 with the disc mower but luckily I saw it before it got chewed up!

Seeing more now. My wife had a doe cross the road in front of her and followed my advice to slow down and be watchful. Sure enough, there was a tiny fawn on the edge of the road getting ready to cross. She laid on the horn and it turned away from the road as another vehicle was approaching. She saw the doe in her mirror cross the road to the little one. Later in the day in another location we saw a doe with her fawn in a newly mowed hay field.

Going to start cutting alfalfa this week, there's thousands and thousands of acres of CRP,Pheasants forever,DNR,water fowl production, ect land in the area but it seems every bird and deer has to nest or have there baby's in our Alfalfa fields that are a half mile or more away for any of that land.
Trying to shoe a fawn deer out of thigh high alfalfa is quite a undertaking, you have to step on them before they will move.About 5 years ago my nephew had a picture taken straight down through the alfalfa of a fawn inches from the tip of his work boot.

One of the biggest dangers are black bears in those areas having bears.
Once they finish hibernating the main thing on their mind is food, and young fawns especially.
