Default Hogs continue to be smarter than me..

Wild Hogs seem to either be lucky or smarter than me the last year...We are now able to access our Hunt club so I went over Saturday with a 4 wheeler to see what the loggers had done. I took my trusty AR in 6.5 Grendel along for the ride..no surprises and I found our 3000 acres was quite dry. I did see enough fresh hog sign and thought I might jump one or two..I didn't. Sunday morning I went back over with my pull behind Brush mower..Dry conditions are rare at our place and it was a good time to mow my trails and a few pine rows before the spring rains. I did not put the rifle on the 4 wheeler since I was mowing some pretty ruff brush. So of course as I was mowing one of my grass roads two 65lb boars run up to me and turn broadside at 20 yards.. and stand there for at least 30 seconds. It's like they know when I don't have a rifle with me.. We do have pork in Jars and in freezer so we are good for now. This morning my friend texted me that she has another hog or two hanging out on her farm..they come by when she is feeding her animals to steal food from her critters. I got two last time she called. Going over tomorrow afternoon to help her out, she said they are trying to get into her hog pens.

She thought they were Pot Belly pigs but they do not have a pot belly.. I looked on internet...These look to be similar to "Mulefoot" hogs?? I have killed over 100 wild hogs but never ones with short snouts like these.

no clue what a mule foot is , but to be sure these critters crossbreed like crazy , we got some that look like barn yard animals and some that look like they speak russian and all of them appear to be smarter than a really sharp pencil ....

Over at our hunt club 80-90% of the hogs are all black. The rest are multi colored. I shot a white one 20 years ago that was in a color mixed group. The weirdest hog I saw was a small 45 lb black boar that had a hog ring in his nose.. he must have been in somebody's hog pen at some point.. One of my friends shot 2 that had "waddles".. I think that is some kind of old Spanish hog trait?

I have never seen a hog with that short of a snot and hair that long. They are some smart critters for sure. I had a buddy that was a NFL player at the time and owned a small ranch. I could hunt whenever I wanted but they would only allow me to use rimfires since they had cattle. I used a 22mag and a 17wsm to fill the freezer. I had to pass up alot of shots due to head shooting was the only option I had. He sold the place 6 years ago and I have not been able to hunt them since. I really do miss it.

It looks like a potbelly trait that has bred into the wild population. I killed several in Pasco and Sumter counties since the late nineties that resemble the one in your picture. I think there are less pet potbelly pigs getting released in the forests as the fad has faded somewhat.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.
