Just got s .450 Bushmaster, I'll be shooting a 250 grain Hornaday bullet. Sure would take a run at that critter to see the results.

That heavy slower moving bullet would be some good boar medicine

seems them crazy pit bull ketch dogs get a bit tooo crazy as heck when it comes time to ketchn part and got all over excited to bite things and bit his horse accidently and the horse threw him off and kicked him in the face !

sometimes they go down easy and sometimes not , they are very tough critters to dispatch , seen them take lead hard many a time and just squeal and run off .
the smaller versions die pretty easy most of the time , but some of them jim dandy size ones act like it ain't a really big deal to take a big caliber.
heart shot big hogs run forever before they bite the dust , shot a few that way in the past and they often run several hundred yards seemingly unhurt before they fall over , and leave about a ZERO blood trail too , that fat under the hide seals off the wound well .

I was invited to go on a pig stick. Way too hot that day to go chasing hounds through the swamp. They had dogs and such to corner the hog in the bush and keep him occupied. I didn’t have a knife big enough, so I said no. They have very thick and dense shoulders that can withstand quite a stab. This because they fight and gouge at each other with them tusks.

I figured folks used air rifles to kill them. No idea people used 30-06 rifles. Must have been a glancing shot. Bet it left him with quite a headache.
they can take a shoulder shot like a champ and often run off like they aint hit or hurt , the neck and ear is the weakest link on them best i can tell ya , one in the ear or the neck mostly drops them where they stand , said mostly ....
ran beside a small one, one time hammering him with a 9mm in the shoulder areas and you could see the hits as the dust flew off his shoulders and about 7 or 8 rounds later it finally went down , it was all of about 30 lbs btw .....

Man I really miss hog hunting. I had a ex-NFL friend that owned a ranch near Groesbeck. I could hunt as much as I wanted but I had to use a rimfire due to the cattle on the ranch. Because of this I had to earhole them with a 17WSM while they were feeding on the cattle food. I had to pass up as many shots as I took because hogs are known for standing still. Life would have been easier if I could have used a centerfire but I was forced to become a marksman with the centerfire. It's been five years since I have shot at a hog and I really miss it.

There's a few here in Casey County & a lot of them will go 200 to 300 easy with some around 500. I've done the ride mules with curs & a pitbull & it was a trip for sure. lol A buddy has killed several of them.
