    Default Dialed in

My crossbow blew up last year while trying to get a second shot on a buck. First chance I've had to shoot it with all new parts. Started out high. Dialed in at 20 yards with broadhead.

Make sure your hunting knife is sharp, because it looks like you'll be using it. Good hunting. Don't forget to post pictures of your successful hunts.

I lobbied to get crossbows legal for use during bow season in Florida. Really like mine. Some of the expensive ones are shooting at 550 fps. That is lightning fast and they are deadly accurate. I didn’t want to spend all that much so got a Wicked Ridge that shoots at 305 fps. Lots of friends who have never shot before do a bullseye first shot. I think I would rather be shot with a pistol than a crossbow.
Maybe they will bite this one……

looked at a few but the cheap versions are 300 and a quick one is 500 , that is bare bones , with a bit of frills added it could be way higher , might just stick em with my 30 06 another year or 3 , just saying .....
none the less at 20 if it dont jump the string it is a done deal from the looks of it to me .....

There is much to learn about crossbows. Buying one doesn’t have to cost a lot of money either. People are always chasing more speed and selling their old bows to finance their new bows. Many will have aftermarket gadgets and stuff making them great deals.

An inexpensive beginners level bow is the Barnett Wildcat. It is a youth sized bow that is on the slow end. Sells new at about $200. I sold mine to a friend for half that and his young daughter slays big deer and hogs with it. They send me pictures of her trophies. That thing was solidly built. Barnett effects repairs, too.

Speed allows for a little more distance when you shoot. They all go TWANG. 50 yards is probably the max range for the fastest modern bows, 30 yards for the slower bows. Hard to say as this is such a guess that each has to decide for themselves what is doable. Still the arrows are much much faster than compound bows.

If you ever get one, place two stickie notes on the inside of the limbs so they can be read when you lift it to shoulder. ARROW on one side and THUMB on the other. Firing a bow with no arrow and it is good bye bow. Leaving your thumb above the flight rail and it is goodbye thumb. LOL

I have seen pictures of thumbs and that ain’t pleasant stuff. Right on through the soft stuff like a dull axe head. They say the pain is legendary.

Just look around as there are always some nice deals to be had as folks get bitten by the speed bug and need to move up the ladder.

I have an iPhone 6S and the updates are killing it off. I asked a guru of such things what I should buy next. He said get the latest IPhone when it comes out in October. He didn’t say anything else. I thought about it for a while, what he said. My guess is that getting the latest phone means it will last the longest. A cheaper phone will be an older phone right out of the box and will not last as long.I suspect many things in life can be like this. Crossbows, too.

updating phones and computers on the older versions often slows them down terribly , an apple employee told me not to update my older Ipads as it would pretty much ruin them, seems the original operating systems cant handle to newer software versions needs for space .

I was a diehard traditional bowhunter with my recurves, longbows, and selfbows. 2 shoulder surgeries pushed into this crossbow. It is still hunting and keeps me in the woods. Some of the new ones are insanely fast and expensive for sure.
