Default It was a deer and skunk kind of night.

They skunks have found their way into the chicken coop and have enjoyed a poultry buffet. I have trapped 2 so far. I spotted 4 more they will need to be dealt with. The skunks and the deer are still working the mulberries over. Had 4 deer running around last night going from one tree to the next and back again. Had something get in my two smaller live traps and eat the tuna fish bait, move the traps and left unscathed. Have to figure out what that was. Here are the 2 deer I managed to photo. They were getting old and needing to be replaced. I had no idea how infested I was with skunks. I had 1 in the trap, 1 standing beside the trap, 1 digging back into the coop, and 3 more eating mulberries. I went an bought some sardines for bait and plugged the dug holes with concrete. I will be trapping out the skunks for the foreseeable future. I need to get them trapped out before I order the new chicks

My brother is about to replace his old layers for a new brood. He has started losing hens also. Trapped 2 coon so far, saw the neighbors cats with bibs and silverware watching from the field edge. Then had 2 fox pups headed toward his coop after that. Seems everything likes chicken! Fortunately, no skunks.

Absolutely chicken is definitely a delicacy for most carnivorous critters. I had trapped the skunks out last year and had not seen any around. Apparently a whole family has moved in. Kind of curious what got into the traps and cleaned them out without getting caught. Didn't leave any tracks or fur on the traps. Guess I need a bigger trap

Almost need a camera set up so you can see their tactics and adjust accordingly.

Yes. It has become apparent that I need a trail cam or two.

Not sure how one approaches a skunk in a trap. Maybe you shoot them then walk up. Skunks like to live in holes and will commandeer a groundhog hole. Look along hedgerow's and old buildings for the best holes.

I thought about getting chickens but no way they would last around here. My friend has some really nice ones and he built a coop that keeps critters out. He was afraid of possum and coon and feral cats. Wire all the way around I think. He has some sort of timer rigged up as well.

I watched a documentary on Show Chickens. It was very interesting watching grown men washing their chickens.
Maybe they will bite this one……

Shooting them is still an odiferous situation. When I built our chicken coop I poured concrete walls and secured the coop and pen on top. Bout killed us hand mixing and pouring.

I have sent these to Davey Jones locker. Don't want any extra odor. The young ones will spray when the trap closes. They are a little harder to deal with
