    Default New turkey call

Been Turkey hunting over 40 years. Always struggled with glass pot calls. Got a cherry glass call from ESH Custom Calls. It came with the "sweet spot" etched. I never knew a call like that had a sweet spot! Sure made it easy to work the striker and make great calls right away. The pitch and volume really compliments my slate call and so far has done well at getting toms fired up. 2 more weeks until my season starts. Hope to have some pics to share then.

Thanks, but I got to admit, its the calling, the responses, and the experience that I'm after. I shot a Jake last year but the hunt was the most fun and memorable of them all.

some of my favorite memories are when a Tom totally fooled me after talking to him for an hour and suddenly you hear that alarm "putt" right behind you and scares the willy's out of you! LOL.

used to have a couple of incredible private ground hunting places but lost both of them to thoughtless so called friends who did stupid things and cost me the use of land.

Now I know WHERE to go but after heart surgery going 5 or 6oo yards before daylight to set up on open ground is daunting. couldn't do it last year but will give it a go this.

it IS the thrill of working a bird and getting them to come in to go after your decoys that is a major thrill. Nothing more exciting in outdoors except when you discover you hit the spawning bank at just the perfect time and they are in a foot of water in brush and you can sneak your lure in tight to end and whack em one after another.

Go where you can and enjoy the time out. Last year I called in several big toms but had a snafu that kept the tag in my pocket. Then I set up in a new area and called 7 jakes into 5 feet behind me. They couldn't see my "expertly" placed decoy and walked away. At 50 yards I got them gobbling again and they came back and walked single file past me at 10 yards. I shot number 6 when he stretched his neck out to gobble. That spot was absolutely beautiful, mixed woods, brush, and a high spot overlooking a river. A scenic walk back down a trail with my tagged bird over my shoulder, and a smile on my face.

I’ve always heard it was just as much if not more fun to call one up for someone else. I discovered the truth of that last Saturday. Called this one up for my son. It was his first turkey. It was a great hunt. He missed the season the last 2 years because of deployment.
