    Default has 2 of them

30 06 that is , black bart the barking buck master is my prime time , but there is a full camo version in my gun safe for that there really up close and personal adventure program as well .
i know there are tons of calibers that are great to hunt with , but little ole me is stuck in the back when and just enjoy the KABOOM of them 06 puppies and the impact on the other other end ,.....
almost went with a 25 06 back in the day to really reach out there and had a 308 for many years too ,along with a 30 30 , but in the end my mind settled and i became the straight run 30 06 old timer ...such is how i roll these days .
they are not my only centerfire weapons but to be sure they are my favorites

Had a 25/06 for a spell. 117 grain handloaded hornady interbond bullets would put the smack down on a deer. Certainly hard to beat the 30/06 for a versatile big game cartridge.

A country boy can survive a 30-06, a 12 guage and lets not forget the 17 HMR for everything else.

Lol...Lots of Calibers/Millimeters to pick from now days, 99% are just tweaked/wildcat old school rounds with a cool new name...As you get older you see a lot of "What's Old Is New Again"
And it's a good thing, one of the best things to encourage young people to enjoy the sport target/hunting is to make them feel they have a special firearm wether it be a Creedmoor,Nosler,Western, or the trusty old "thirty-ought-six"

Some of those well over a century old calibers are still doing a fine job still. Only advantage of some of the new ones are sectional density. Those long for caliber bullets tend to be very efficient and effective when they reach their target.

My uncle bought a gun collection back in the 80's. He gave my dad a 270 and a 30-06. Dad likes the 270 and I prefer the 30-06. I think it has more knock down power as my deer rarely run and Dad's usually do for about 30 yards or so before giving it up. I'm a neck shooter, though, so that's got a lot to do with it. I put my rice bran piles fairly close to my boxes so I don't do long shots anyway.

All ammo is difficult to find right now, but ain’t laid my eyes on any 30-06 ammo in stores in many moons! That definitely speaks to the popularity of that caliber. I carry a 30-06 in 100% of my deer hunting trips.

I have a Marlin 25-06 I can bark crows out of trees at 100yds. Too costly to do that nowadays though.

I see tons of 308 / 7.62× 51 just sitting on the shelves. In the past 2 years I have seen 2 boxes of 30/30 that I grabbed for the neighbor. I haven't laid eyes on any other hunting caliber

I was in Wyoming in August and made a couple of trips to a Mercantile. Plenty of guns and ammo. I asked an employee how that was possible. His theory was because of a lower population. Lots of ammo that I do find (9mm, .22, etc.) are brands that I am not familiar with. Ammo shortages have happened in the past, but this one seems worse.
