I have a Winchester 30/30 by dad bought for me from JC Penny. I have had since 1978 and added a Marlin to the fold around 10 years ago. I will never part with either of them. I killed wild hogs over the years.

In my younger years I parted with the Winchester to make room for a bolt gun because that's what all the cool people hunted with. I have a Ruger Levergun in 44 mag. With a 240gr magnum handload it will wreck one out to a 100 yards
My first rifle was a Win. 94.
Burned up in a house fire, or I’d still have it!

30-30 is a real old caliber but as we can see can still get the job done.

I have a Marlin 30-30, and my dad has his old Marlin (with a filed down hair trigger) and his brother’s Winchester 30-30. I have killed deer with all three guns. When I’m gonna be at close range, I usually go for Unc’s Winchester. If I’m hunting fields at longer range, I go with my 30.06.
That’s a great family tradition you all have going there with that rifle. Not one thing in this world wrong with anyone owning a gun and knowing how to safely operate it and also knowing exactly what it’s used for!
Thanks for posting y’all’s story.
