You will. You will and if you don’t, change everything and keep trying. It is amazing how well they can pattern us. We think we are all sneaky and such, but we are not.
Look for locations no decent hunter would ever bother to sit.
Maybe they will bite this one……Ketchn LIKED above post
Just think what your odds would be without feeders and electronic devices! Back in those days you would probably have fewer neighbors to compete with though
Back in those days you would have lived closer to the land. Likely knowing a lot more what went on that land. The old timers knew where to find te fish without electronics. They also knew how to find game.
some 30 years ago , I carried a 30 30 marlin with a 4 power scope on it ,
I put one or 2 boards in a tree here and there that were natural travel routes .
one spot had about a bunch of REALLY torn up trees all around it .
looked like the work of cattle , but i knew better ....
had no cameras or feeders back then myself .
first sit in that spot a simply bigger than life MONSTER buck walked right up to me .
he never knew i was there and he just stood behind a small patch of brush that only made just his hooves and a line of the top of his back visible and his head and neck were not clear of the brush either.
he slowly walked away directly away from me and there never was a clear shot .
as that rack slowly went away i thought next time mister for sure .
we only saw him one more time about 600 yards away headed towards another ranch about a week later .
the following week my neighbor went on to tell me he shot the biggest buck he ever saw in that area a day or so ago
he described him as looking like a caribou and that was EXACTLY what he looked like !
his rack was so high it didnt even seem real ....he is still engrained in my mind i tell ya

these deer are really tough to sneak up on , they live in an island of woods we own about 3/4 of a mile out in open grasslands .
on camera it is quite clear they have one or more sets of eyes always looking towards the county road .
it is a really rare to ever see one ,when you are on foot or traveling back in there .
but if you go in quiet and the wind is right and you sit real still and quiet , sometimes they show up .
it is actually pretty amazing how many are in there and how often they elude you .
i have watched more than one stay just inside the brush and not move for long periods of time just watching the open land .
they have been hunted hard by previous owners of the property and are tuned up well for survival for sure

Parrern, pattern, pattern and when conditions are right is how I hunt. I stay away until I am ready and all the external conditions are in my favor. Still my success rate is low because them wild buggers have other plans.

Couple of years ago I watched a monster of a buck cross a plowed field every morning at first light. He would cross to a area about the size of a house that had an old dead tree with privet hedge bushes around it. He surely had it figured out. Probably a good 200 yards in every direction was under his watchful eye. He had a nice cozy place to spend his days.
