Snicker is out of my Stormy and Sis. he's about 16 mos now and I got him back from a guy that couldn't keep him at 9 mos. Doubt I'll trial any more but this guy makes me think maybe I should! Was going to run him without his check cord tonight but chickened out. Oh well going to this weekend. He hit this bird about 15yds out, tuff act to follow! American Field Red Setter

Beautiful Dog! I have always LOVED the Irish Setters but have never actually owned one. Thanks for sharing.

SMILE- A curve that can set a lot of things straight!
I think his is a field version of an Irish , less fur and house dog in them is my guess . We once had a cocker that was the hunting version.
I remember it being called an American cocker ,twice or more the size of the average cocker and red.
But , The best quail dog I ever had the pleasure to hunt over was an English setter my good friend owned back when . That dog was just about ridiculous good at the little bird venue .

This is the American Field version. Those that cross register them call them Irish Field Setter's. The rest of us pretty much call them Red Setter's. They are the only breed you can't cross register to AKC without a DNA test. Development started about 1950. They found the best hunting Irish they could and cross bred it to a son of Nat Ch Mississippi Zev. Lot's of breeding very carefully to bring back this dog and lot of record keeping. I found my first at a Washington Irish walking trial. Could not believe what I saw. Dog that won that walking shooting dog stake put down the best performance I've even seen. She became the 2011 Region 10 Shooting Dog of the Year and the mom of my Stormy.
setters are really lovely dogs , don't know much about the red field versions ,but a few of my friends have the regular Irish versions and they are typically very intelligent , lovable and easy on the eyes .
one of them actually smiles really big when its happy , got to love that right ...
