p.s. all those colorful hogs were actually under the feeders when i walked in yesterday at 2 45 pm
the one i shot was apparently following them and they left right when i walked in according to the time stamp
Here is a quick story and a bunch of pretty cool trail cam photos and even one of ME
Went yesterday to gather one last deer ,season is over today .
Saw lots of deer , just not the one or 2 I wanted to harvest .
Sat down at 3 pm ....at 3:15 pm a large black boar "tried" to sneak by me ....
KABOOOOOM ! one behind the ear at 45 yards with my 30 06 and he HITS the ground for a dirt nap !
Lets out a REALLY LOUD long squeal and never flickers a hair ....
Ketchn cycles his rifle and DAT HOG WAS UP and gone before my older slower self could EVEN get back on him !
Of course I never thought about shooting him twice and wasnt EVEN ready to do that and it was only one hop to the thicket and .....well you know the 40 other excuses ....
and to be sure i was alone and he was big and NO i did not go off into that thicket to look for him
We had a real nice snow out at our place last weekend and some of the photos indicate such .
and yes times are tough and food is scarce ....deer and hogs do not mix unless the food is in really short supply
i am trying to reduce the population of black hogs at our place .....
because i really enjoy the colorful ones.....

I honestly think he would a been more than I could have easily handled by myself . Looked about as wide as the lane he fell in nose to tail and its as wide as a pickup truck . I imagine he would a been really difficult to load "if" he was an edible hog .....we see about a half dozen or more laying in the bar ditched around there all the time in small groups , folks dont eat many of the larger versions .

I hate to waste meat but every one of those hogs needs to be shot. Cause a lot of problems here in Georgia.

no waste in the wild as the coyotes and vultures will clean him up in short order. can't believe you put big calibre shell in his head behind ear and he got up and took off! Oh well, they are varmits and taking all out is a good thing. plus I would take out the solid black ones too as the multicolored ones are more likely to be closer to domestic origin and better eating. big old smelly boar would have been tough wrestling him into your truck and not exactly prime eating anyway.
curious what you were looking for in deer? thought one of those young does or ugly racked young bucks would have been perfect for last day venison.
the big doe that came in with the 2 buck fawns is one of those that i dont want to harvest . the 5 does that came in behind me down wind ,winded me before they got on my place . the spike that you might have noticed under the feeder in the snow got ran off by the big boar . The boar ran off a herd of deer in the thick stuff that the deer bed in and i watched them all run to the far side of my place . the rest of what i saw was either on my neighbors place or not in my harvest schedule either .
