As many know, my daughter started a quest a few years back to see how many different states she could kill a deer in. We had tried Illinois twice this season and once last season with no luck (well there were plenty of opportunities but it is hard to just pull the trigger on just any deer in Illinois...). I thought we were done for the season but was offered a property to hunt in Missouri during the late muzzleloader hunt.
The first 2 sits were pretty slow only seeing a couple of small bucks and neither of them offering any type of shot. We were able to figure out a couple nicer bucks the second day and made plans to hunt them the rest of the trip. The third day the snow set in (which I was hoping for) but the snow soon stopped and the sleet started. This made for a hunting mess. 3" snow with 1/2" ice on top made it sound like we walking on potato chips. We tried to slip in to set-up on the bucks once and run them out when we were 300 yds away. At this point I knew it was going to be pretty tough so we made plans to shoot the first deer she had an opportunity on. The 4th afternoon we had a huge doe walk in at 15 yds. The rest is history.
7 states down, many more to go (TN,AL,GA,MS,IN,KY,MO)
