I would never recommend a 243 for deer hunting. When it comes to the recoil, I can’t tell the difference between a 270, 3006, 308, or 3030 when shooting at a deer. Heck a 20 gauge kicks when you’re just shooting at a target. My grandad had a 243 and it got to where we hated to hear him shoot because we knew we would have to track it. We finally talked him into a 3006 and that saved us time and wasted deer. I shoot a 270, and when sighting in the scope I dread shooting it because of the recoil. But, when I shoot at a deer, I never feel it kick. Don’t get too small of a gun!
