Got to get to the point of what gun for a kid. Everyone has their preferences form experience but the kid has to learn a preference. All guns kick when target shooting. That is what the kid has to learn from " practice shooting"! So! Why not Use a 22 to get them on target and then graduate them as they progress. The kids body frame is not the same as yours. A large kick to start with will cause them to jerk and be afraid of the blast and kick. Common sense has to be inserted in the training on how to handle a gun. My son's learned from BB's and Pellet guns then to larger guns as they grew stronger. Never once did they shy away! A 243 is alright for a beginner. But practice and safety all have to be in place before you let them lose with a gun. Nathan my grand son learned the same as my boys did. Slow and easy! He shoots a 243 and hammers nails with it. I hope you just go slow with the process of training with which ever gun you choose! Safety first then practice!!!
