Good question I think. I've personally had a 270 split a hogs head and had to later shoot it with a handgun. Hit it while it was looking at me, bullet hit him right between the eyes, run up his skull, over the top of his head, and out. Bleed profusely but kept going. Tracked him for over a mile until dogs hemmed him up. Bone was so thick it just rode up the bone and out. Did the exact same shot about a year earlier with a 45-70 with very different results. Only difference in shoot placement was 45 was about a half inch lower towards the snout. But there is no certainty when it comes to hogs, they are one tough creature.
