Thanks for the pics. In fact I saved the cardinal pic and will put it on my screen for a while.
sure was pumped up to go hunting , have not been to the woods since my health issue before thanksgiving and took half a day off and listened to my buds story about the one that got away early in the day , seems his old sako misfired 4 times in a row on a real whopper buck ! so off I went in hopes maybe he ran him over to my area ....
well I got there about 3 pm and spread out some corn around my feeding area , bring in some does and the bucks will follow is the typical approach in these parts .
anyway nothing but birds in numbers until 4 30 pm and then the deer started to trickle in from several directions . had I think a total of 8 does in front of me dancing around on the spread corn and of course following them was at least 3 large bucks over my shoulder and slightly down wind . at that point I quit taking photos and got ready to do what I set out to do , first buck nice 8 but not what I want , second buck nicer 8 for sure but still not what I want ,third buck a heavy 9 and at least a year older than the first 2 and was for sure about to be done at around 50 yards to my right in an open field about 5 30 pm . then they just STOPPED ! and stood around just over the neighbors fence line to my right kinda browsing some weeds and watching the does .....slowly but surely milling towards the does they were and I was bought to raise the rifle knowing that about 1 step on my side of the fence was a done deal for the larger buck .
all the sudden the girls got giddy and ran over to them and jumped the fence and off they all went across the field .....darnit ....2 does stayed though and I watched them for a while , time running down and about 15 minutes left of light and another nice 8 showed up on my side of the fence ,but not what I wanted and still wasn't playing camera man at that point . day went to last light and a trophy coon came in as I left .....
that yawl is my story and I am sticking to it .....
maybe next time is my hopes ...
a few photos for yawl and have a great day
