I enjoyed my first hunt beyond words this year and to top it off never dropped the hammer ! I played with them and saw a bunch of deer and generally laughed and smiled the day away from dark till dark . Saw 5 bucks and 31 does and 3 of the bucks would have been ok to harvest , I just didn't have shots I prefer to take . the 2 other bucks were legal and at least one would have been a decent cull buck , but alas I was texting and let him get away as well .....
I went hand to hand on the evening hunt in the brush pile and had 2 different does muzzles 6 feet from my muzzle . I thought about just whacking a few does but something in me said nevermind . it was rather warm and I hit a lake at lunch time and the ponds after the morning hunt .found some crappie bass and bream eating jigs and in the end I had so many deer all over the place I had to stop in the road leaving to wait on 2 youngsters to pick up some acorns when I left last night . so you see that the thing is this .....
one don't have to kill something to have a great hunt ...
the day ended with a beer with my bud at his deer camp and we were building a fire and he says hey there is a wood pile right over there with some great wood to burn in it ...so he walks over in the dark and starts to grab wood and I yell hey bro ...USE A LIGHT on that pile this is snake country ! he flipped on the light and like an actor in a movie there lays a copperhead up on the top of the pile
we both laugh about it and he says man was that a classic moment or what ....
