A tornado wrecked two old barns on my dad's old home place and we saved as much roofing tin and lumber as we could. I also check the county dump for scrap lumber that could be recycled. About the only thing I buy when building my deer stands is nails. Here's my dad standing in front of our latest build from three or four years ago. Not pretty, but effective.



Here's me with my Fat Boy Condo "Dixie Box" that I built a few years back. I built it big because my young son liked to go hunting with me, but liked to lay down and sleep from time to time. I get a buck out of it every Fall, usually during Thanksgiving week.

I usually build my stands 5x6 with tin roofs with about a 10 inch overhang to keep rain out . The elevated stands used treated 4x4 about a foot in the ground. the outside is covered with used Carpet ---- the backing has to be facing inside or the uv and rain will have it falling off in about 3 years ... I am always on the lookout for old artifical Christmas Trees that are taken apart and the branches stapled to the stand. the stand disappears into the trees . most people do not see the stand from 20 yards. The floor is 5 foot off the ground foam insulated and a swivel chair that does not squeak. My feeders are PVC pipe with a cap to keep rain out Painted chemo the deer are not spooked by them. I like to take my 0 turn mower to fill the feeders as there is no scent on the Ground and they hold enough corn for 3 days

old carpet and some plastic corrugated for the panels and couple of cans of spray paint ,some old interior latex on the outside before the "camo" a few cheap 2x4 studs and a metal roof (10 foot sheet cut in half ) ....fold up chair I found and there you have a ....a sit down hide that I have used for about 4 years and I fix whatever gets beat down by the weather once a year before season ....I typically hang a few pieces of carpet in the windows as wind flappers ...nothing beats a year round noisy blind .....

Build my box blinds like then on the ground but use Cedar slabs left over at local mill .

on the cheap, you can use pallets. i do love my pop up too though. spring steel type are cheap and easy to use. i have killed a bunch of animals out of mine.
