Default Looking for a scope for new rifle

My parents got me a savage 17 hmr for Christmas and I'm looking for a scope for it. I wondered if you all had any recommendations in the $100 and less range? I have a Simmons on my 22 that I'm looking to replace too so a suggestion on it would be appreciated too. Thanks in advance

Don't waste your money. Buy a Nikon or Leupold scope. If you just have to spend less money check the Pentax scopes out they at least have a lifetime no fault guarantee. But buying the other cheap scopes is throwing away money. Been there done that. Also buy the best steel scope mounts that you can afford as this is as important if not more important than the scope. Stay away from the aluminum scope rings and mounts. That's my 2 cents worth and it didn't cost you nothing.

You have received some great advice right there!! Steel rings and a Nikon!! Nothing I can add to that.

In my opinion, these are the finest rings made. They are made from one piece of stock, machined out, and matched. the base is built into them. takes out one more moving part to cause a problem. you have to order them to your action. same cost though with by the time you buy bases and rings of anything else.

Here is what I ran into, I bought a Savage 17 5-6 years ago then bought a BSA 3X9X50 scope made for the 17. The only way it would fit without touching the barrel was using mounts made for a muzzle loader. My suggestion is take the rifle somewhere and get someone to help you match the scope you chose with mounts to the rifle. Don't know what you are close to but guys at the local BassPro helped me out a lot. Understand I am not much of a gun guy.

Check out swfa.com, they have a link at the top of their site called the sample list. You can find some good deals there on demo scopes and trade ins.

X2! I have several sets, and will buy more, when needed for a new rifle.
