    Default Waterfowl hunting pics

Well I finally managed to purchase my hunting license, now that season has been under way for a month. Friday evening I took off from work early to try a bit of waterfowl hunting on one of the local floodings. Just an hour into being on the water in my kayak, I took my first shot of the season and dropped my first duck of the season. That was all the shooting for Friday evening. Then Saturday morning, with 3 of my hunting buddies, we sat on a large lake in northern Michigan waiting for ducks. From sunrise until 11:30am when we left, we had seen over 250 ducks, but the majority were out of range. My buddy Jeff managed to get off 5 shots but was unable to connect. Mike took 4 shots and was also unsuccessful. Scott was only there as a spectator as he had no license yet, so he did no shooting. I took three shots with my Ithaca Model 66 Super Single lever action single shot 12 gauge and was able to drop all three ducks. So for my first weekend of waterfowl hunting this year I went 4 for 4. I guess lady luck was on my side.

That's for sure. This gun was purchased by my father when it was brand new in the late 60s. It was the first shotgun I ever fired, when I was 5 and dad let me finish off a crippled duck. I can imagine how many rounds have been through this amazing gun. And, it shoots a slug like no other. At 50 yards, using just the bb sight that came stock on the front, we can overlap slug holes. At 75 yards it groups under two inches and at 100 yards a deer still doesn't have a chance. It is the first gun all three of my sons shot, and will be the first gun for my grandsons to shoot, which will be sometime later in the year for my oldest grandson who is now 5.

It's a month before our season opens. I'll be glad when it gets here.
