500 cases will fit in a gallon zip-lock bag with ease. I ran 1 bag of brass through the bolt of the gun last night. I looked at the headstamps, all were 556 or unmarked 223. I got 124 more cases that will fit the shell holder.
I posted on another forum about using a 380 auto bulge buster to resize the cases since both use the #4 shell holder. One member said no, they are made for pistol cases, not rifle. When I get a Lee order together I'll add one to it.

Still a mystery to me I don't know anything about a 380 Auto bulge buster it might be the right diameter but the 380 shell is much shorter than the 223. Are you resizing the brass with one shell holder an then trying to prime with another tool? Would it be possible to prime with the main press? It would be much slower but many millions were done that way before all the new priming tools came on the market. Do you know anybody in your area that would let you try priming with their priming tool?

The bulge buster has a shaft that pushes the brass through the die like a bullet sizing die, no shell holder. The die is open on top. I only need to size the bottom 1/16 to 1/8" of the case body, about the last 0.225" of the total case from the head. http://leeprecision.com/case-conditi...ge-buster-kit/

Both the 380 and 223 die sets come with a #4 shell holder that fit on the press ram. The bad brass won't fit in either of these.
I have 3 sets of hand priming shell holders. Each set has a #4 holder. I'm using the loosest of the 3.

That's something new to me but I don't shoot or load for slip-a-matic pistols. I can see where it could be a handy tool to use though. Is the ring right above the extractor groove in the picture similar to the problem that you are having? Is this works I would like to know, might be able to help somebody else out down the road.

I'm wondering too that if you are getting a ring like that on your brass if you might be resizing your cases too much? When I resize for a bolt action rifle I back the resize die off and then just size the brass just enough for a snug fit. Then turn the die down another 1/8 turn for just a clearance fit when the bolt is closed on a loaded round. This keeps you from over working the brass and it will last much longer.

Wait a minute. Now I have a bunch of brass primed that won't fit the shell holder for the die set. I'll have to tap them in to load and tap them out.

I believe you have a bunch of brass that has been run through a "SAW". usually this brass is almost worthless to mess with

You need a set of SB 556 dies and a body die. Sinclair sells them

New dies won't help if they won't fit a shell holder.

My point was more that I believe you have a bunch of saw brass. Midway and other places were pawning this off during the big brass shortage. But its been floating around for a good while. This is a well known problem in the AR15 community.

A Hornady or Lyman holder usually works on most of these. Also at times the lee (40 s&w) can be used but the Hornady and lyman are the way to go.

Then use the SB 5.56 dies (comes with good shell holder) to take the bulge out from being fired from usually open breech military MG. Normal 5.56 dies will not fix this.

But do as you see fit and best of luck

5.56 dies, where did you find a set? All that I see are .223.
