All of the necks/mouths are fine.
The cases fit in the die set #4 shell holder when they were decapped.
The cases fit in the Lee 223 REM Case Length Gauge #90114 when I trimmed them.
I tumbled them again to remove lube, now they won't fit any shell holder.

A good .223 cases measures .372 just above the groove. These bad cases measure .374 and .375 diameter. I need to find sizing dies for cases that measure .375, .374 and .373 diameter. I don't think the Lee Universal decapping die will size, or will it?

I am at a total loss as to why after tumbling the cases will not fit the shell holder. Would there be a possibility that there is a piece of brass lodged in the groove of the shell holder, if they worked before tumbling then they should work after unless you are really beating those cases to death with some type of heavy median?

I looked at a couple of reloading books that I had close by and one says that the case should measure .375 and the other says .376. There is such a thing as a Small Base die I don't think Lee makes one but RCBS and Redding do but the shell still has to fit the shell holder before you can use the small base die. By chance will these shells chamber in your rifle? What kind of rifle are you planning to use this brass in?

    Savage bolt.
If the brass was coming out of the tumbler with bent necks/mouths I would say, Yes I am beating the brass to death. But I'm not getting any oddly forms on any of it except the base of the body.

I'm still at a loss as to why the brass would at first work with the shell holder then after tumbling the same brass and same shell holder will not work. Just by chance are you sure that you are using the same shell holder and have maybe made a switch to a .357 or a 9mm shell holder just guessing?

When I finish a loading session the die sets and other parts are washed in mineral spirits, dried, washed with oil, put in the right compartments and stored in the cabinet. The .223 die set was put up 3 weeks ago. I brought it out the other day when I broke the pivot, then back into it's box. When I found the first case that wouldn't fit the shell holder I looked to make sure I had a #4 in the primer tool.
I grabbed 9 cases out of the bucket and pulled the gun out of the safe. I chambered each one time, closed the bolt then ejected them. I have 3 out of 9 that will fit the shell holder. I'll try them all and try to empty the bucket, may have to do some a few times.

I moved forward today, let that bucket sit for a few days until I get back to it. I got a bucket of brass primed today. Now stored in coffee cans.

Just curious have you figured out what caused the problem? How many did you end up with that wouldn't work with your shell holder? I'm just wondering if tumbling dinged the edges of the rims just enough so that they would not slide into the shell holder?

I haven't figured it out. Every place I've posted it, no reply to a good answer. One guy said he had some like that. He said the vains in the tumbler are to high.
It's a 2 gallon bucket. I primed 3,000 out of another bucket. So it will be about 3,000 that I can't use for now.
All of the rims are fine, it's the body of the case just above the groove.
I'll chamber them and check each until they fit the shell holder, I'll stop at 10 times.
