Hey buck, it's Nick. We don't have it by our feeder, but i believe my grandad has some on his ride a way. the deer love it. plant it now and it should be ready for deer season.
does anybody put rye grass out by yalls feeder for the deer to eat heard some people doing it. but didn't know if it was worth my time putting the seeds out for it to grow

i plant rye grass and clover nothing else...deer love it...plus the rye grass is easy no nonsense like clover..some places i just throw the seeds on the ground and they still come up...
Sow you some peas and okra in there too.
since I got no response as to "what was a good ryegrass" that the deer preferred, I got with a biologist, and he suggested "Marshal or Nelson" rye grass, thought I'd pass along to anybody that's interested.
marshal rye grass is the only brand i use. It seems to come up faster, fuller and greener. Makes a good lookin food plot.
there are better choices than rye grass, it has little nutritional value.
