    Default question about taxidermist

I shot a pretty 8-point in 2008 so i found a taxidermist said he would do it for 400$ and so i put half down he filled a contract out.he told me he would have it done by april 2009.i called him on nov 2009 he said he had a death in the family(understandable)so he told he would have it done in three months (april 2010) her it is almost 2 years still no word and no deer head.so my question what should i do go get my deer head finished or not and get all my money back or what would you all do in this situation.i up for all the input i can get.

if it's me, i walk in and get my money and my deer, if i couldn't do it by myself i'd take some folks with me, i live in the country and this is how i'd handle it.

i do a little taxidermy not that i wouldn't do a lot if i could but i just started last year. i know for a fact from the time you start on a deer and you work on getting it done it should take no longer than a week to get it done and then it is only a waiting game for it to dry 2-3 months. i would walk in there and ask for my deer back and the money if he would be willing to give it back if not i would talk to a lawyer and make hime stand by his contract. that's just what i would do because you can bet if he had it done and you havent paid he would have already called you or came and seen you so you need to do the same.

I would go in and talk to him, and find out what the hold up is on it.. Then I would ask him to see it, even if it's not finished.. there is a chance that he may have given your mount to someone else and no longer has it so he keeps putting you off so hoping that you will forget about it. I have a friend that gets his mounted and it takes him a year to get them back. I take mine to one that does show mounts and and usually get them back within a few months. First one he done for me, I got back in less than 3 weeks and it still looks just as good today, 5 years later.

mine take 9 to 12 months to get back, depending when I come home from the woods.

We've had 4 mounted over the years asnd it never took more than 3 months on each one. I'd do what was suggested in the #5 reply myself and then go from there.
