Congratulations on her first kill.
Shelby has been wanting me to take her hunting since last season but with the hunters ed and getting her ready to shoot it just wasnt gonna happen so after a few trips to the range i finally got her in a stand this past sunday morning.
8:30 I notice a ear twitch in the distance as three does ease there way into our clearing about 150 yards away. I try to get her set up on the deer but she doesnt feel comfortable making the shot with the fog making the deer go in and out of sight. Several minutes later the three deer make there way back into the woods and she could never get the scope zero'ed in on one. I was really hoping this wouldnt be the last deer we saw of the morning but would still be a good start for her.
9:30 I hear Shelby doing one of those yelling kind of whispers that there is a deer coming through the woods on her side of the box stand. I get turned around to see a buck making its way through the woods at just short of a running pace. I get her set up on the gun again just in time for the deer to cross 40 yards infront of our stand but it isnt planning on stopping. I let out a whistle and it freezes in its tracks...After a few seconds of hesitation i tell Shelby that it isnt gonna wait much longer...BOOM!!! I see the bucks back arch as it darts into the woods. Only problem is i could see right off that she hit the deer pretty far back.
10:45 I made Shelby wait a while to let the deer lay down since i knew the shot wasnt in a great place. We made our way down the stand to find only one drop of chunky blood.
11:30 we tracked for another 45 minutes before ever finding the second blodd but could still not find a trail
12:30 we have a fairly large group of fellows making there way through the woods now to find this deer when a fellow happens upon a good patch of blood 250 yards away from last blood. Then another and another and then and deer.
Shelby shot her very first deer sunday morning morning. A 6 point buck at 110 pounds. A very good first deer and on her very first hunt. We will be making another trip to the range but i feel that she was just really rushed on her shot. I still Cant help but to be proud of her which is why im telling yall the story and sharing the pictures.
I have always been a fisherman but she really enjoyed her day in the woods today. So if hunting is what it takes to get her in the outdoors with me then looks like im gonna be in the woods a little more often from now on.
Congratulations on her first kill.
