Default Got some unexpected company at my tree stand

Went up north in central Michigan for a long weekend of whitetail hunting and had a special visit Friday evening. Take a look. They are becoming more common in the last 10 years farther and farther south in the state. Used to have to go to the U.P. to find them. Buddy and his wife have seen a cougar, although the DNR still doesn't want to admit they are here in the state.

I didn't see any horns so I kept the arrows quivered. Maybe next weekend. The rut should be starting in a couple of weeks up here.

That's pretty cool... I have a friend that hunts in the Basin down here and we have a few black bears around here too.. He was telling me that a friend of his was hunting one morning and his tree started shaking. One was climbing the tree that he was in. That would make me want to quit hunting. Good luck on the rest of your hunt.

Default bears don't bother me...it's the cougars that give me the shivers.

I've shot two black bears already up in Canada, and they are some fine tasting fare for sure and for certain. Just wished I'd had a permit in my pocket when it showed up. It gave me a couple really nice shots.

The MIDNR used to say "there are no cougars in the state"...now it's "there is no viable population of cougars in the state". Note the wording change. They are here, and people are seeing them in increasing numbers in more populated areas to boot. Keep your lap dogs in the house!

I shinny up 25-30 foot w/ my climbing stand, so he would have had a climb to get to me.
