Interesting comments. Some are false. I live in central IL. My boss owns property in western Illinois. We have hunt and fished and been in every town and tavern from here to the quad cities, south to quincy and back. I have met a million outdoorsmen and listened to conversations all over. We have a deer farm close(8 miles). I will have to be careful here, so form your opinions from this link TPWD: News Release: Nov. 26, 2008: Deer Smugglers from Texas, Minnesota, Sentenced to Prison . Guys around here think to themselves, why pay 10+ when you can get in a lottery at a state park for nothing and still have a chance at a trophy. Just my opinion and hopefully a clarification.

These deer all came from private property and farmland.

    These are all wild deer.

These were not taken on a ranch or preserve.

Illinois can and does produce deer like this.

Illinois has nutrient rich soil, and a very late firearm season that starts after the peak of the rut.

Default Big Bucks (both Deer and $$$)

I apologize for my rant...I have Deer hunted all over this country for 30 + years (15 States, military service) Granted, yes, these deer may have come from private farms, and IL does have a great wildlife management program. My point is that huge Deer like that normally don't live to that size on heavily hunted public lands ...(2-3 y/o deer is the average age they get shot) where the normal, every day hunter gets a crack at them... it is high bucks $$ to harvest big bucks in most cases on privately managed lands or farms... I got sucked into the Noel Feathers trophy deer hype for many years ago before he got busted and I wised up a lot since then... Prior to the Internet in the 90's now it shows the reality of this business.... It is a big $$$ business in many parts of the country look at the web site below... and they market it like any average joe can get a buck of a lifetime....make a deposit first

Yes, that is true, most people are lucky to take a 120 inch buck on their property.

Things like hunting magazines, dvd's and the outdoor channel make some people think that a 170 inch buck is behind every tree.

As you all know this simply is not true.

Most hunters can hunt for decades and only see a few bucks in the woods that would score 160 or higher.

When people watch the outdoor channel, and dvd's, they need to realize that most of the hunts are videod on hunting ranches.

They always give credit to the products they use, for the reason they kill so many big bucks, but the truth is the reason the hunters on the outdoor channel kill a lot of bucks, is because they are usually on a managed big buck ranch.

    Default Big Bucks

It always amazed me how these famous TV deer hunters today on "Versus & North American Whitetail" travel and can go out week after week and get these huge trophy class deer in a new state or area within couple of days of their hunting trips... No pre season scouting, no real preparation, just sit in a pre-set blind and BAM! I don't know how many seasons I have hunted hard in Mississippi, Texas and Alabama (very high deer population) and gone weeks without seeing a deer... But I love Deer hunting and the outdoors, so I spend my time in the woods hoping for a real honest to God trophy like on TV (I have harvested some nice bucks in the past) will cross my path... Unfortunatley, we are all bombarded with today's marketing & sales explosion and the Deer Hunting Industry is no different... My grandson thinks Bill Dance is the greatest Bass fisherman alive, every week he's catching numerous 4-5 lbs bass on a new lure... he doesn't realize Dance is fishing privately stocked Bass lakes on each show... I am just a little wiser now ....just take everything I see with a grain of salt...

    Good hunting
