Good on you for paying it forward
I was at my local Walmart a few nights ago to pick up some jig heads. There was an older gentleman looking at the crappie plastics and he asked me what they were biting. I showed him a couple of the lures I had been catching them on and he picked one up then said “ Thank you so much, I’ll come back and get another the next time I get paid”. I felt bad for the fella, because these lures were all around $1 to $2 each. Grew up modest, myself, so I know what it’s like to have to choose where every dollar goes between paychecks.
As we got to talking, I asked him what area he fished and when he’d be there next. I went home and got my tackle bag, loaded it to the brim with nearly every lure, jig head, and spool of line I had. I also spoiled up one of my spare rod/reel combos and tied on a new spinner bait.
After work the following day, I drove to the spot in the lake he said he fishes. Found him and gave him one heck of a starter kit. Must have been well over $200 bucks of crappie and bass gear. He was tickled to death and I was too at seeing how happy it made him.
I buy way more crap than I really need, like most of us guys do, right? That gentleman reminded me of where I come from and how blessed most of us are to be able to buy and enjoy simple things like fishing gear. Not to mention our health and the ability to get outside to fish in the first place.
Wherever that fella is this week, I hope he is reeling in some slabs or some big ol’ chunky bass with his new stuff.

Wonderful job and very generous. I’m sure he was appreciative and thankful to receive it all. Hopefully he can pass it on one day and continue the kindness.

The spirit of Christmas has arrived, at least it has for him. I tip my hat to you for such a gesture and outreach. No doubt you also helped him sign up on CDC, if not, you now know where to find him. WTG! Great effort.
